More than 220,000 volunteers across the country will provide $74 million worth of free house repairs to low-income homeowners Saturday as part of Christmas in April's National Rebuilding Day.

Locally, Christmas in April Greater Las Vegas will rehabilitate or renovate 29 homes with the help of 2,500 volunteers from area companies, Nellis Air Force Base and church and civic groups. Call Beth at 259-4900.

Teens sought for Metro's citizens classes

Metro Police are looking for about 30 teenagers for the next Citizen's Police Academy, which begins Tuesday.

The class, for ages 16 to 18, will be held once a week for nine weeks. Call Officer Kathy Kosmides at 229-5990 or 262-2442.

Collector auction planned at Imperial Palace

Kruse International will produce a semiannual collector car auction Saturday and Sunday at the Imperial Palace.

Nearly 400 classic, antique and special interest vehicles will be sold. Admission to the auction is $8 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Techniques in music therapy to be taught

A free three-hour accredited music therapy workshop is being offered 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Clark County Flamingo Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

The program, presented by Creative Therapeutic Arts, teaches a new technique that assists clients' release of high stress, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, anger, grief and depression.

Adoption fair on tap at Ethel M factory

The Animal Foundation's spring pet adoption fair will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Ethel M Chocolate Factory in Henderson, 1 Sunset Way.

More than 80 dogs and cats from the Animal Foundation will be available for adoption. The spring pet adoption gives people an opportunity to be with the dogs and cats and get to know them outside of a shelter setting. Call 737-3100.

UNLV will host informational program

The UNLV gerontology certificate program, part of the College of Extended Studies, will host an informational meeting at noon Wednesday.

The meeting will cover the course work required for the certificate, as well as a presentation on career opportunities in the fast-growing field of aging services. The meeting is free, space is limited. For information and reservations, call 895-1079.
