Letter: Rationing taught value of conserving

If you don't want to dig deep into your pocket, you will plan your shopping and whatever else you do all in one trip, or maybe stay at home a little more, which means less pollutants in our air.
Those of us who remember the war years of the '40s learned to do without. Dad got a ration stamp for a certain amount of gas for work.
Sure, gas prices were low but if you exceeded that quota, you didn't get any more till the end of the month and had to use some other means of transportation.
We did a lot of walking to the movies or to the store when I grew up.
The bottom line is, if anyone had a complaint coming, those who grew up in the war years certainly did. But we didn't as we knew it was for the war effort. We must all learn to do without occasionally. We couldn't do anything about it then, but you can now.
If you really want to boycott the petroleum company, then take the bus, ride a bike or share a ride to work till the gas prices go down.
