Fishing report — April 21, 1999,

Wednesday, April 21, 1999 | 11:20 a.m.

LAKE MEAD: When boaters aren't being forced from the lake by strong spring winds, they are enjoying good action for striped and largemouth bass.

Most of the success for stripers has been coming by drifting anchovies. Casting spinner baits and artificial worms toward brush have been yielding largemouth bass.

Schools of threadfin shad are being located in deep water by boaters who are using fish finders. The bait fish should begin their annual spawn in early May.

LAKE MOHAVE: Striped bass fishing continues to be good around Cottonwood Cove while stocked rainbow trout are being caught at Willow Beach.

Boaters are having good luck by fishing deep with anchovies at the lower end of Davis Basin.

Another productive area has been across the lake from Owl's Point.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: The crowd of more than 100 anglers who converged on the area Saturday found fair trout fishing and pleasant spring weather.

Anglers had their best fishing success in the morning with many catching limits of five rainbow trout. Fishing was slower in the afternoon with anglers catching trout at the rate of about one per hour. Most of the fish are recent planters, but a few up to 15 inches have been taken recently.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Anglers continue to enjoy good fishing for stocked rainbow trout.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Rainbow trout fishing has been good with better action being found before sunset. Largemouth bass and crappie fishing have been slow.
