Letter: Unions forcing tourists elsewhere
Wednesday, April 14, 1999 | 12:01 p.m.
The unruly union crowd protesting there forced us to cross the street to pass. We were very upset when told by a policeman that we could not use the walkway where the protest was taking place in front of the Venetian.
As long-term visitors to Las Vegas, it appears to us that the unions there have taken on the character of a Chicago-style, gangster mob ... "Damn your business and the public as long as we get our way."
Our March trip this year will be our last to Las Vegas (for a few years, at least). We'll be gambling closer to home in Louisiana for a while.
Personally, I feel Las Vegas business, and particularly the casino business, is being dictated to more and more by elements which do not have the casino nor the public interest at heart (the Culinary Union, for example), and we just don't think that's right.
So, we're going to avoid Las Vegas for a while.
Las Vegas, you've got a serious image problem.
