Huge slide not likely to be cleared away before Wednesday

The road was not expected to reopen before Wednesday afternoon. In addition to the massive cleanup, the Nevada Department of Transportation is carefully inspecting the area to make sure another slippage is not imminent, according to spokesman Scott Magruder.
"The last thing you want is to take out a car," he said.
There were no cars or people around Monday afternoon when a 30 foot-by 60 foot wall of mud and rock peeled off the Sierra and crashed onto the road about one mile from the valley floor.
That left commuters taking U.S. 50, which also links the lake and the valley but takes about an hour longer in each direction.
