Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
Senior professional golfers are reminded that Las Vegas Senior Classic open qualifying will take place at the TPC at The Canyons on Monday, May 10.
This event, which will be limited to 156 professionals over the age of 50, will give golfers the opportunity to qualify for the Senior Classic and thus compete for its $1.4 million purse.
The four low scorers will gain entry into the May 13-16 Senior Classic.
The Monday qualifying tournament is open to the public. Call 242-3000 for information.
* SENIOR-ITIS: Daily Las Vegas Senior Classic tickets can be purchased for $15 and season badges for $50 at Cadillac West, Cashman Cadillac and Ted Wiens Tire and Auto Centers, plus all local golf courses, through the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association.
Spectators can save $5 by buying daily tickets in advance and $25 on the $200 VIP package, which includes four season badges and one parking pass.
Special 2-for-1 ticket packages are available for seniors (60-over) and military personnel. Juniors (17-under) will be admitted free with paying adults.

This event featured 260 PGA club professionals and amateurs from across the country.
Jerry Holley, the tournament's producer, fared best of the local participating professionals, tying for eighth. His team, which included fellow Las Vegans Dale McIntire and Larry Koentopp, won the British Open flight.
* WINTERWOOD CHARITY: The Winterwood Men's Golf Association's 13th annual Charity Classic, to benefit a Boulder City High School boys and girls golf teams and art department scholarship program, is scheduled for Sunday, May 2 at the Boulder City Golf Course.
Entry fee is $75 per person, which includes green fees, cart, tee prizes and an 11 a.m. buffet lunch.
There will be separate flights for women and senior men over the age of 55, with a shotgun start for all players at 7 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
