Letter: Why are Nevadans paying so much?
Monday, April 12, 1999 | 11:41 a.m.
The following are known facts:
1. Nevada's gas taxes are among the highest in the country.
2. Our state's senators were able to get us some of the largest grants for improvements on Nevada's highway system, from the federal government, this past year.
3. Nevada's vehicle registrations are among the highest in the country. I paid $56 to register a vehicle in Michigan. I came out here and the registration was five times that amount!
4. Many people pay for their streets in the form of SIDs or LIDs.
Will someone please tell me where all this money is going? Our road system is no better or worse than other states. Our gas prices are soaring completely out of control. Some fat cats are getting richer and richer and no one seems to care.
