The Rev. Jesse Scott was recognized this morning by the Las Vegas City Council as the Las Vegas Citizen of the Month for April.
Scott, a former president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, was honored for his work providing food for the homeless, shelter for victims of domestic violence and drug and alcohol counseling.
He is a pastor at the Second Baptist Church and is co-organizer of the Metro Police Community Relations Board.
One of Scott's ongoing goals is placing Nevada's nonviolent prisoners in the work force so that they can pay restitution to their victims.
