Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has been awarded the Desert Research Institute's President's Medal.
"Sen. Reid's environmental dedication has uniquely paralleled that of DRI, with major initiatives and accomplishments from the level of local Nevada communities right up to the global issues that face us all equally," Stephen G. Wells, president of the institute, said.
Wells said Reid has had "significant involvement in federal legislation regarding safe drinking water, hazardous waste management and transportation issues affecting environmental quality."
The President's Medal is the Desert Research Institute's highest nonscientific honor and is equivalent to the honorary doctorates awarded by the teaching campuses of the University and Community College System of Nevada.
