Letter: Employees must show up for Y2K

They all seem to declare that they will allow no employee vacations during the strategic time period to ensure that adequate manpower will be available to enable backup remedies should problems occur.
Having once been a supervisor and responsible for denying holiday vacations to some employees to ensure coverage for those periods, I know there will always be a case of "blue flu" or two as all employees don't care as much as management does about having things run smoothly when it puts their personal plans in jeopardy.
The reaction of some Sunrise Hospital workers to their recent memo denying all vacations for December and January brings the question to light: Can we really count on all the employees respecting management's decision enough to insure the necessary coverage? Multiply that times all the other businesses or agencies with a similar policy.
Please, employees, do your part to help eliminate unnecessary problems which could result from your absence from work during those crucial times.
