Six local senior citizens have won awards in the juried arts competition "Life in Nevada, Past and Present."

Sherman Foreman won the $1,000 first prize for his metal sculpture "Trembling Hills," which signifies the past through recycling of found materials.

Second prize went to Earl T. Dunbar for his oil painting, "Good Times '60s." James MacDonald's pastel drawing, "Nevada Past and Present," won third prize and Don Griffith's oil painting, "Persephone," took fourth.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Randa Bishop's photograph "Civic Center" and to Frank Perna's assemblage "Ghost Dancer."

The six winning pieces are currently on display in Building C of the Community College of Southern Nevada's West Charleston campus. On May 21, they will be displayed in the lobby of the Sawyer State Office Building, 555 E. Washington Ave.
