Opening ceremony for Marina Park delayed
Thursday, April 1, 1999 | 10:01 a.m.
Thursday's much-ballyhooed opening ceremony for the Sparks Marina Park has been canceled due to bad weather.
Sparks Parks and Recreation Director Stan Sherer said the park will open to the public for fishing on schedule, but no new date has been set for the opening ceremonies.
"The school district requested the cancellation because it's going to be too muddy and too cold for the kids," Sherer said. "Without the kids there is no ceremony."
Sherer said the ceremony was intended to focus on a student fishing day. That will have to wait until better weather, possibly next month, he added.
