Letter: U.S. should tire of undeclared wars
Thursday, April 1, 1999 | 11:45 a.m.
Well, the "peacekeeping" mission at a cost of $10 billion-plus crept to social work, nation building, apprehending war criminals with U.S. special services, and now to an undeclared war.
President Clinton is an internationalist and a supporter of the U.N. He insisted we pay our arrears, yet he doesn't get U.N. Security Council approval to attack the republic of Yugoslavia.
NATO is now considering policy changes to attack sovereign nations for humanitarian and terrorist reasons. With NATO expansion this will ensure that America will be involved in many other undeclared wars. The Europeans should be assuming this responsibility since we've protected them since 1945.
President Clinton proved that he has little regard for the rule of law in the United States and he has the same disregard for the international rule of law.
The shame of the NATO attack of the republic of Yugoslavia is that air power, as in Britain in World War II, has only united the Serbs and may lead to an escalation of the war to Macedonia, Albania and further. The attack is not only illegal it is also poor policy.
Support our troops. Stop the bombing.
