Convention Authority to expand
Thursday, April 1, 1999 | 11:21 a.m.
The Nevada Resort Association and the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce had been at odds over AB599, which would have reduced the chamber's authority to name members to the board. The LVCVA collects and disburses millions of dollars each year in the room tax receipts.
But a compromise was reached in which the chamber will now appoint three members -- one of whom must be a representative of the resort hotel business. That member would be added to the present three members from the Resort Association.
The 12-member authority would be increased to 13, with seven being elected officials from local governments.
