Letter: We can get rid of the blame by getting rid of Clinton
Monday, Sept. 28, 1998 | 9:46 a.m.
The outrage of the foreign press, from the economist to Le Monde, against the president of the United States is enormous. Blaming failing economies on hucksters on the Hill is making a scapegoat of our lame duck.
There is enough blame to go around. It is an act of chicken little to throw rotten eggs at us. True, many Americans are resisting to become part of some egomaniac's desire to whip us into one global omelet.
But let's hold our nose for now. Prostitution is a 24-hour commodity on the Walletjes' in Amsterdam, the Reeperbahn in Hamburg and children are objects of slave trade in Africa and sex tours in Asia.
There's enough blame to go around. I plead to those who wrote the master plan: Please, let's clean house. Character comes first. All it takes is a clean slate and a simple paper ballot.
