Letter: PETA doesn’t put animals on same level as humans

Monday, Sept. 28, 1998 | 9:46 a.m.

Fern Jennings (Sept. 15) depicts the orangutans in Berosini's "care" as living in a "sanctuary." Real sanctuaries simulate animals' habitat, not a human's living room and certainly do not include dressing the animals in aprons and being taken to McDonald's in air-conditioned buses.

Instead of telling PETA members to "get a life," Jennings should work toward giving life back to the orangutans -- not dressing them up and parading them around for profit. To quote Desmond Morris, "No animal should be dominated or degraded to entertain us." Think about it.
