John L. Gray was firefighter with the Carson City District of the Bureau of Land Management. He had just returned from a wildland fire and was trying to repair a leak in a tanker truck when he suffered a fatal heart attack on Aug. 25, 1996.
Frank "Peg" Nevin was a 20-year veteran of the Reno Fire Department when he died of a heart attack while fighting a fire at the Cox Ranch on Aug. 17, 1938.
Meredith "Riff" Williams was a member of the Virginia Fire Department when he died on Oct. 20, 1872.
Williams was one of numerous firefighters who went into the mines below Virginia City to fight a fire which broke out on April 7, 1869.
Williams was overcome by smoke and gas generated by the fire and rescued by a partner. Though he died three years later, doctors at the time said his death was the result of being asphyxiated during the mine fire.
The ceremony at the memorial in Mills Park will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 10.
