* 'MARDI GRAS, WITH A TWIST' -- The National Association of Women in Construction presents their Annual Scholarship Fund Raiser at 6 p.m. Friday at the Las Vegas Country Club. This year's event is "Mardi Gras, with a Twist," a '50s hop. Currently, the organization has six Las Vegas area students that receive scholarships to study in their chosen field. * BACHELOR AUCTION -- The Arthritis Foundation will host its 12th annual Bachelor Auction Saturday at the Alexis Park Resort. Women have the opportunity to bid on 30 of the city's most eligible bachelors, accompanied by upscale date packages. "Meet-the-bachelors hour" begins at 7 p.m. with a no- host bar, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, silent auction and the opportunity to win prizes. The bachelor auction begins at 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Las Vegas branch of the Arthritis Foundation. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door. For more information, call 367-1626.
* LUNCHEON & FASHION SHOW -- The Alzheimer's Association's annual luncheon and fashion show will be Thursday at Bally's Las Vegas. David Cordoza of Neiman Marcus will present a runway fashion show featuring "The Art of Fashion." Maureen Reagan and Tova Borgnine will host the event, and John Daly will be the master of ceremonies. All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Association of Southern Nevada. Tickets are $75 or $650 for a table of 10. For reserved seats, call 248-2770.
* LUCK OF THE DRAW -- The Nevada Institute for Contemporary Art will preview 61 pieces of original art created at NICA's invitation by contemporary artists on the theme of "Luck of the Draw." The evening, celebrating the finest in culinary arts, wines, performance and visual arts will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the Arts Factory, 107 E. * INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL -- KNPR 89.5-FM Nevada Public Radio will be the recipient of proceeds from the gala opening of the Las Vegas International Film Festival today at the Orleans hotel-casino. The 90-minute British documentary "Mob Law: A Film Portrait of Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas Attorney" is the evening's featured film.
* BLACK & WHITE PARTY -- The annual Generic Black & White Party, a benefit for Aid for AIDS of Nevada, will be from 7-11 p.m. Saturday poolside at the Hard Rock hotel. Guests dress in black and white -- casual, formal or costume -- bring $25 in nonperishable food or sundries to be donated to the AFAN Food Bank, and enjoy complimentary beverages, food and entertainment. * CELEBRITY DRIVERS -- Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada will partner with the "Private Issue Jerry Garcia Road Trip to Benefit Meals on Wheels" Thursday through Saturday at Sunset Station. Private Issue, a credit card that features the work of celebrity artists, is celebrating Garcia's philanthropic acts with hunger causes during his lifetime by donating a portion of its proceeds to benefit the local Meals on Wheels program. Signage above the 1967 Volkswagen camper microbus -- painted to resemble Garcia's artwork -- will acknowledge the partnership with Meals on Wheels and encourage event attendees to become Meals on Wheels volunteers with the Henderson Area Senior Nutrition Program and encourage "celebrity drivers" to deliver Meals on Wheels. * 'LEGENDAIRY EVENING' -- Classroom on Wheels is sponsoring its second annual "Legendairy Evening" fund-raising event to benefit preschool-age children at 7 pm. Sunday at the Silk Purse Ranch. The nonprofit Classroom on Wheels is celebrating the addition of seven new "COW" buses to its fleet. The distinctive buses, painted black and white to resemble cows, are self-contained mobile preschools. They travel to disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout Southern Nevada, providing a free preschool education to more than 500 children. For tickets, call Louise Helton at 645-8480.

* WALK FOR THE CURE -- The Las Vegas Walk for the Cure, to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Funds are raised as walkers ask friends, relatives and co-workers to sponsor them for participating in the 10k walk-a-thon. Companies can also contribute through corporate sponsorship and through selling "paper sneakers" for $1. For more information or to participate, call Colleen Ashworth at 732-4795.
* NATIONAL WALK-A-THON -- In unison, some 240 chapters of Links Inc., across the country will participate in the fourth annual Walk for Health and Hunger Saturday. Locally, they will meet from 8-11 a.m. at Wayne Bunker Family Park, Bunker A, Alexander Road and Tenaya Way. The project gets communities involved in walking for good nutrition and health screening. For a $10 donation, the public is encouraged to join members of the Las Vegas chapter of Links, a national service organization of 10,000 black professional women in 39 states. * LEARN TO COPE WITH CANCER -- The American Cancer Society is offering "I Can Cope," an eight-week series of free classes about cancer from 6-8 p.m. beginning Thursday at Mountain View Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way. Facilitators will include doctors, nurses, social workers, and other professionals in the medical industry. To register, call 798-6877.
* SEEKING PATIENTS FOR DRUG STUDY -- The University of Nevada School of Medicine is presently seeking patients for investigative drug studies for chronic low-back pain, Alzheimer's disease, diabetic neuropathy and vascular dementia. According to Dr. Charles Bernick, chief of neurology, past studies conducted at the school have led to the approval of new drugs scheduled to be on the market sometime next year. * JWV POST 30 -- Jewish War Veterans Post 30 meets 9:30 a.m. Sunday for breakfast snacks at Sunrise Mountain View Hospital, Tenaya Way and Cheyenne Ave. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. Post 30 was organized to honor longtime Las Vegas leader, and founder and publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, the late Major Hank Greenspun.
