Letter: Starr has taken Clinton down, and office of president as well

Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998 | 9:31 a.m.

A bullet could not more effectively remove the political threat of the Clinton prosperity that followed the Bush fiasco. You do not have to be a Democrat to appreciate what Clinton's economy corrections have done for this country.

You do have to be a scandal monger to do what Starr has done, or to like his actions to inject "private" sins or weaknesses into the report to Congress.

Did President Clinton commit high crimes? Or has Starr been the perpetrator of real high crimes? Since when is infidelity a high crime? To his wife probably, but to the country?

In any event the real culprit is Starr; he stooped about as low as any man could to destroy the president -- and the office of President.

Grounds for impeachment? What man would not lie about sexual encounters other than those with his wife when he is married? If we are to expect impeachment for such lies, how about some real justice, prosecution of Starr for his assassination of the office of the president with it purchased testimony.

He paid Monica Lewinsky with a guarantee "not to prosecute her" for her story about an incident or series of incidents that were irrelevant to the Whitewater or the Paula Jones case.

Of course the Mellon family desires to help the Republicans regain the White House and the ever news-hungry press has been hounding Clinton since his first election. So why should we expect them to leave him alone to accomplish the work of the nation? They can't stand his success where they had failed when they had the opportunity.
