The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Board of Trustees on Thursday hired Daniel Walters as the district director with an annual salary of $111,446.
"That's what Darrell Batson was making when he left," said Carl Rowe, who has been managing the district since shortly after Batson's departure in January.
Batson quit in the midst of rising tensions between the board and staff.
Walters, director of the Buffalo, N.Y., public library system for the past three years, will have a five-year contract when he begins work on Nov. 9.
The contract between the district and the business consulting firm of Fair, Anderson and Langerman, which employs Rowe, was due to expire this month but the board decided to give it a 60-to-90 day extension to help Walters.
Rowe noted there is a 60-day extension for the contract which would have expired on Nov. 15, just six days after Walters' arrival.
The last 30 days of the 90-day extension will be pro-rated, allowing the contract to end sooner if Rowe's services no longer are required.
