The Boulder Dam Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Salvation Army have joined forces to help furnish scout uniforms to those who can't afford them.
The agreement between the two organizations was to be announced at a press conference at 3:30 p.m. today.
A "Uniform Bank" is being established at the Salvation Army, which will distribute Cub Scout and Boy Scout uniforms for free.
"Having the ability to obtain scout uniforms through the Salvation Army will be a true blessing for these boys," said Catherine Boldt, Urban Scouting executive for the community. "They will really feel they are part of the group."
The public is being asked to donate unneeded uniforms to the Uniform Bank.
"Urban Scouting has a strong network of volunteers that is helping us administer this program," said Liliam Hickey, chairwoman of the Urban Scouting program. "My dream is to see uniforms on all of our Urban Scouts because uniforms will help keep these boys in scouting."
Uniforms may be picked up along with other items being donated to the Salvation Army by calling 649-2374. Scout volunteers also are willing to pick up uniform donations. For this service, call 736-4366.
