Letter: Stock market editorial, cartoon missed the point
Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998 | 10:59 a.m.
So the stock market went down? So what? Suppose it keeps going down? So what? Don't you get it, folks? The stock market isn't MGM Grand, Mirage Resorts or Microsoft. It isn't Kerkorian, Wynn or Gates, either.
It's the American people. It's you, whether you're in it or not. It's your productivity, inventiveness, innovative ability. Your vision, drive, imagination and dreams turned into reality.
The stock market is a bet on yourselves and, contrary to the Sun and its cartoonist, a bet on the American people is never -- repeat, never -- a "bad bet."
