Leading library candidate cautiously optimistic

Daniel Walters is a cautious man who doesn't want to presume that the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Board of Trustees will agree to hire him after reviewing a negotiated employment package that will be presented to them at its Oct. 10 meeting.
He is, however, eager to start work.
"Las Vegas is an exciting community," Walters said Thursday. "A lot of things are going on: public policy related to a rapidly growing county, urban growth, the county seeing a diversification in business.
"There's a lot going on for a local government professional."
Walters has notified the board of directors of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library of his interest in the Las Vegas job.
But, he said, it isn't appropriate to tender his resignation until the Las Vegas library board has taken action.
Walters feels the general terms worked out with Carl Rowe, managing agent for the business consulting firm that has a contract to run the library district, are within the guidelines created for the position.
"He thinks they are appropriate to both parties," Walters said. "We're headed in the right direction."
