Clark County School District Police have arrested two young Las Vegas men this week on charges that they brought guns onto the Eldorado High School campus, 1139 Linn Lane.
Joseph Sanchez, 18, was taken into custody at lunch time Wednesday after police reported they found a loaded shotgun inside a pickup he'd driven onto the campus to give a friend a lift, authorities said. Police described the weapon as 18 inches long with a pistol grip. It was discovered during a vehicle search initiated after an officer found shotgun shells in the truck, police said.
And police said they took Pat Brown into custody about noon Tuesday after the 23-year-old allegedly came on campus with a loaded .380-caliber automatic handgun. Authorities said Brown was waiting to pick up a student friend when police passed by the car and noticed the gun.
Brown and Sanchez were charged with gross misdemeanors for having guns on campus, which could result in a $2,000 fine and up to a year in jail. Law enforcement officers are the only people permitted by law to carry guns on school grounds.
