The Las Vegas Thunder today announced the signing of defenseman Jason McBain for the 1998-99 International Hockey League season. The 24-year-old McBain made his IHL debut last season with the Cleveland Lumberjacks. He ranked second among defensemen with 8 goals and 22 assists in 65 games. Originally the fifth choice of the Hartford Whalers in the 1992 draft, McBain played three seasons with Springfield of the AHL before joining Cleveland last year.
The Thunder begins their sixth season in Las Vegas on Oct. 10 against Houston at the Thomas & Mack Center. Training camp starts Sept. 18 at the Santa Fe Ice Arena.
