Wrong ballots delivered to Reno polling place
Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998 | 3:51 a.m.
The error led to confusion at the voting center located inside the St. Terese the Little Flower Church, according to Washoe County Registrar Laura Dancer.
About 90 minutes after the polling place opened, several Republicans complained the county commission candidates listed on their ballots were not the same ones listed on the sample ballots. Then, the ballot collecting machine would not accept those ballots.
Dancer said several pads of ballots being distributed at Little Flower listed the District 2 Republican candidates, Ted Short and Sue Camp, instead of District 3 candidates Mike Mouliot and Ward Peterson.
After the error was noticed, the incorrect ballot tablets were removed and correct ones were used. The ballots cast by the early 27 Republican voters cannot be counted, Dancer told the Daily Sparks Tribune.
"We have a double-checking system to make sure the right ballots go to the right place," she said. "But in this case, the system fell down."
