Letter: Columnist’s bias shows badly

Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998 | 4:30 a.m.

In his Oct. 21 column, "Really wonder what Starr did wrong?" Anthony Lewis has shown his one-sided view of the "spirit of fair and decency" by again attacking Kenneth Starr and focusing on his alleged offenses in his "determination to force Clinton from office by any means available."

His idea of "fair play" is to concentrate his fire on the special prosecutor, while ignoring serious charges against the president -- lying under oath, involving others to perpetrate his lies, witness tampering, obstruction of justice and misuse of the presidential office.

Speaking of "fair play," it was not Starr who used "attack dogs' to vilify and spread lies against women who dared to speak against Clinton and to dig up the sex episodes of Republican congressmen that happened decades ago.

And speaking of "decency," it was not Starr who engaged in kinky sex with a 22-year-old intern under his employ in the White House, wagged his finger at the American public and said, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman -- Ms. Lewinsky" and expensively prolonged the investigation by lying about it for seven months.
