A Reno taxi company was fined and is under a continuing investigation by the Transportation Services Authority for destroying records it is required to keep.
TSA commissioners voted Thursday to fine Donald Drake of Baker and Drake Inc. $10,000 for destroying invoices the agency says would have proved the company overcharged some of its customers.
The order commissioners approved would reduce the fine by $2,500 if the company pays back complaining customers and is in compliance with regulations within a month.
Commissioners denied a request from the company's attorney to stay the order and the TSA staff was ordered to continue investigating the company to assure compliance.
In other actions, the commission approved a $5,000 settlement with Bekins Moving & Storage Co. for selling and transferring its operation without TSA approval and fined John Ferris, doing business as Platinum Entertainment/VIP Service for operating without a state permit.
Bekins sold its operation to Blue Ribbon Relocation LLC. Following the commission's approval of the fine and settlement agreement, it voted to approve the transfer and Blue Ribbon's certification.
Ferris was cited for operating as an intrastate bus carrier without a permit and was fined $1,250.
Phil Oldridge/Travel Impressions LLC, doing business as Nevada Charter, also was cited by the agency for operating as an intrastate carrier without a state permit, but the fine was suspended.
