Rain stalls UNLV tournament

Only three of six UNLV men's singles players and no doubles teams competed because of inclement weather Thursday during the second day of the 1998 ITA Regional Championships being played at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
After a full round of consolation singles in the morning, just more than half of the main draw singles matches were completed before the rains came. Rebel Adam Thurgood advanced to the second round of consolation play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mark Marlowe of Idaho State.
In the main draw, Rebel players won both of their completed matches. Fifth-seeded Nenad Zivkovic easily defeated Rene Ramirez of Air Force, 6-2, 6-1, and Danny Erez swept Jeff Ruedy of UNR 6-0, 6-2. Both players advanced to the third round.
