Letter: Association board member fires back

Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 | 10:21 a.m.

Being the board president of an association, I have had about enough of this rubbish. Sure, there is evil in society. However, when did a service-oriented, difficult, time-consuming job such as an association board member take on this persona?

Also, who do the buyers of these beautiful properties expect to take care of the community once the developer, the developer's hand-picked board and the sales force leave? We, the volunteers, that's who!

Board members are unit owners in the community who volunteer hundreds of hours yearly preparing for meetings, dealing with reserve studies, hiring lawyers and management employees, struggling over delinquent assessments, water bills, members or their tenants who choose not to adhere to the governing documents, etc, etc, etc.

Our neighbors elect us. If they don't like us, vote us out. Although, what usually happens is that a handful of volunteers, drained of their private lives and enjoyment of the community, choose to remain in office for the well being of the entire development because there are few people wiling to replace them.

The bottom line is, stop rapping the majority because of the overzealous actions of the very few. If this negativity continues, there will be no one left to run our communities.
