BATON ROUGE, La. -- Gov. Mike Foster says he's asking two state gambling regulators linked to the probe of former Gov. Edwin Edwards to stay away from Gaming Control Board meetings until a separate state investigation of alleged influence peddling is completed.
The Times-Picayune in New Orleans reported one of the board members refuses to step aside because to do so would be tantamount to admitting guilt.
Edwards is expected to be indicted on charges of illegally influencing the awarding of casino licenses.
The two Gaming Board members are being investigated because of their ties to Edwards and San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr., who pleaded guilty to failing to report a scheme in which he paid Edwards $400,000 for Edwards to help him land a casino license.
