Downtown hotel closes a month early

The 41-year-old Holiday Hotel will fade into history on Sunday, a month ahead of schedule.
Executives of the hotel-casino on the Truckee River, half a block from the auto museum, said last month that the place would close Nov. 29 and all 174 employees would be out of work.
They also said they were negotiating a sale.
That hasn't come through and they say business hit the skids as soon as the closure was announced.
Employees got the bad news Wednesday afternoon.
They will continue to get their paychecks through next month, but their hopes of any overtime or holiday pay are gone right along with their jobs.
