SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
The Las Vegas Stars will open their 1999 season at Cashman Field on April 8 when they begin a four-game series with the Omaha Golden Spikes, the triple-A affliate of the Kansas City Royals.
The 142-game schedule, which features 71 homes games, includes 32 weekend dates and the annual fireworks night contests on July 2-3 against the Fresno Grizzlies.
"The 1999 season could be the most exciting in Stars history," Stars general manager Don Logan said. "Our long-time affiliation with the National League champion San Diego Padres looks to be extremely promising for the whole year. The Padres have a wealth of talent ready to move up to triple-A next year."
