Michael Julian Cook, 57, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born Nov. 26, 1940, in Santa Cruz, Calif. A resident for 12 years, he was an automotive technician for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; five daughters, Cynthia Cook, Virginia Cook and Michelle Cook, all of California, and Elena Danley and Adriana Born, both of Texas; one son, Glenn Cook, and one brother, Don Cook, both of California; and nine grandchildren.

Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Jeanette Corbett

Jeanette Corbett, 60, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born July 29, 1938, in Illinois. A resident for 38 years, she was an insurance collector for University Medical Center.

She is survived by one brother, Robert Adams.

Visitation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. today in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Robert D. Dennis, 66, of Henderson died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 4, 1932, in Mangum, Okla. A resident of Las Vegas for 35 years and of Henderson for 12 years, he was a construction worker and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his mother, Lora Reeves of Boulder City; one brother, David Dennis of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Harriet Ealey of Goldfield and Ann VanAken of Boulder City.

Graveside services will be 12:45 p.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Joan Margaret Durant, 63, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Ness City, Kan. A resident of Las Vegas for five years, she was a retired nurse and a nurse educator for 41 years and a member of the Officer Wives Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Durant-Buggy of Stockton, Calif., and Carol Jones of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; three sisters, Martina Schiffelbein of Cottonwood Falls, Kan., Sister Paulette Schiffelbein of Moore, Okla., and Teri Howell of Kent, Wash.; two brothers, Casper Schiffelbein of Garden City, Kan., and Sylvester Schiffelbein of Wichita, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Frances Gabriel, 85, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local convalescent center. She was born Feb. 11, 1913, in Detroit. A resident for 20 years, she was a beautician.

She is survived by one daughter, Maria Coon; two grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Olin Gin, 70, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Canton, China. A resident for 35 years, he was a retired dealer of 18 years at Caesars Palace and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Yuet; three daughters, Betty Hale, Carol Beatty and Suzie Gin, all of Las Vegas; three sons, Stanley Gin and Wilson Gin, both of Dallas, and Vinson Gin of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Altha "Mary" Handley, 85, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1912, in Pioneer, Texas. A resident for 10 years, she was a licensed vocational nurse.

She is survived by three sons, Edward G. Lorente and Walter W. Lorente, both of California, and Jon W. Glaubitz of Las Vegas; one daughter, Sandrah Peters of California; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 3 p.m. until a 5 p.m. service today in Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St.

Janet E. Jackson, 83, of Las Vegas died Oct. 17 in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 21, 1915, in Iowa. A resident for 39 years, she was a casino cashier.

She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Penny Gurzi Loveland of Las Vegas and Patricia Freidman of Massachusetts; one grandchild and two great-grandchild.

Jason Lamb, 26, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born July 26, 1972, in Minnesota. A resident for one year, he was a host at the Desert Inn.

He is survived by his companion, Shanna Kerekes, and two daughters, Courtney Rausch and Shilo Lamb, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Sandra Gardner of Wisconsin; his father, Rex Lamb, and one sister, Teena Gardner, both of Minnesota; and three brothers, Scott Lamb of Illinois, and Brian Lamb and Billy Lamb, both of Minnesota.

Michael Edward Lindhout, 35, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in a hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1962, in Grand Rapids, Mich. A resident for 10 years, he was a printing company pressman.

He is survived by his wife, Therese; one stepson, Christopher Buchko of North Las Vegas; his parents, Jack and Sue Lindhout of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Cindy Lindhout of Henderson and Debbie Perkins of Las Vegas.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Eastern.

Todd Linklater, 41, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Arizona. He was born Feb. 9, 1957, in Henderson. A lifelong resident, he was a flooring and tile installer for 15 years.

He is survived by three children, Jason, Nicole and Jordon; his mother, Dawn Linklater of Corvallis, Ore.; two brothers, Wade Roberts and Daryl Kalmus, both of Las Vegas; and one sister, Hope Sprunger of Sherwood, Ore.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in First Christian Church, 101 S. Rancho Road.

Anthony Ornelas, 17, of Las Vegas died Monday. He was born May 5, 1981, in Las Vegas. He was a food-service cashier.

He is survived by his mother, Cletara Mitchell of Kingston, Okla.; his father and stepmother, Jessie and Brandy Ornelas of Las Vegas; two brothers, Jason Ornelas of Kingston and Daniel Ornelas of Las Vegas; two sisters, Renee Ornelas of Kingston and Trista Ornelas of Las Vegas; and his grandparents, Joseph and Juanita Ornelas of Las Vegas and Goldie Norman of Kingston.

Paul Patrick, 69, of Las Vegas died Sept. 28 in Las Vegas. A caretaker for the National Park Service and a Korean War Army veteran, he was born Sept. 25, 1929.

Patricia Peterson, 89, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local health care center. She was born Jan. 11, 1909, in England. A resident for 40 years, she was a retired telephone company supervisor and a member and donor to the ASPCA and the Humane Society.

She is survived by two brothers, Charlie Farina of Modesto, Calif., and Denis Farina of Richmond, British Columbia.

Frank Petullo Sr., 65, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Philadelphia.

He is survived by wife, Jeanette; two sons, Frank Petullo Jr. of Philadelphia and DonMichael Petullo of Las Vegas; one daughter, Lisa Storione of Las Vegas; three sisters, Mary Iannelli, Angie Ivarone and Mitzi Petullo, and two brothers, Joseph Petullo and Domenic Petullo, all of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Friday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

Barbara Portugal, 57, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born May 5, 1941, in Lockgally, W.Va. A resident for two years, she owned and operated a pizza restaurant.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; three daughters, Elizabeth Sanchez of Pomona, Calif., Rita Persico of Stevensville, Mich., and Loretta Portugal of Los Angeles; two sons, Alfredo Persico of Las Vegas and Larry Portugal of Long Beach, Calif.; one brother, Bob Stamper, and one sister, Dolores Klimik, both of Cleveland; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today with 5 p.m. services in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Lewis Gary Smith, 44, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 22, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas. A resident for many years, he was an anesthesiologist.

He is survived by his parents, Lewis C. and Barbara Smith of Texas.

Cletus Clinton Varnum, 64, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Jackson, Mo. A resident for 12 years, he was a taxicab driver and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one daughter, Donna Hamilton of St. Louis; five sons, Daniel Varnum of St. Louis and Donald Varnum, Darryl Varnum, David Varnum and Scott Varnum, all of Las Vegas; four sisters, Mildred Newkirk, Ina King, Janice Moutray and Sondra Huddleston, all of St. Louis; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled at 2:30 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Bruce S. Weber, 19, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 25, 1979, in Las Vegas. A resident for 19 years, he was a swimming pool technician, a member of Vocational Industrial Club of America and Indian Springs High School cross country and track teams.

He is survived by his parents, Sandra J. and John R. Weber of Las Vegas; four brothers, Brian Weber and Thomas James Weber, both of Las Vegas, John Weber Jr. of San Pedro, Calif., and Ben Weber of Lancaster, Calif.; and his grandparents, Elmer and Bonnie Matuska of Stockton, Calif.
