Harvey’s to get facelift

Officials at Harveys Resort Hotel-Casino say it's part of efforts to make the casino strip along Tahoe's south shore more pedestrian-friendly.
The low-rise entrance to the resort will be changed to more closely resemble the overall high-rise look of the rest of the resort.
Pending approval by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, some work will begin immediately. The bulk of the construction will begin a year from now after the end of the busy Tahoe summer tourist season.
Harveys began as a sandwich shop during World War II and eventually became the first south shore resort. It was shattered by an extortionist's bomb in 1980 and was rebuilt and expanded in an $18 million project.
