The Sun makes the following endorsements for the University Board of Regents:
In Subdistrict C, Tom Kirkpatrick faces John Ellerton.
Kirkpatrick, a retired UNLV faculty member, says he will work to ensure that the university system is adequately funded to deal with the rapid growth, and he would ensure that education dollars are being spent wisely. He believes the board should develop all policies with the students in mind. The Sun endorses Tom Kirkpatrick.
In Subdistrict F, Doug Seastrand faces Christopher Kindred.
Seastrand comes from a family that knows the value of community service. A 1987 graduate of UNLV in computer science, Seastrand wants to expand the role of the university system to help the state's economic diversification efforts.
Doug Seastrand is well-spoken and has a good grasp of the issues. He receives the Sun endorsement.
In Subdistrict G, Steve Sisolak faces Sherry Colquitt.
Colquitt is very active in community affairs. She is concerned about managing growth while maintaining the quality of higher education in Nevada. She also is concerned about the College of Education and whether it's turning out teachers who can teach and are prepared for the classroom.
Sisolak's priorities are accountability and ensuring education is affordable for all students. He believes more community involvement is needed in the university system.
Voters would be well served by either Steve Sisolak or Sherry Colquitt.
