Brief: Gaming company investigated again
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998 | 4:13 a.m.
The investigation came at the request of the Missouri Gaming Commission, she told the Kansas City Star.
This is the first indication local charges are possible after the U.S. Justice Department in August agreed to a $665,000 settlement with Hilton rather than file criminal charges against the gaming giant.
At issue is whether Hilton rewarded Elbert Anderson, former port chairman, by giving a $250,000 grant to a firm Anderson controlled. The port controlled the riverfront property on which the Flamingo Hilton was built.
A Hilton attorney said the company is confident it is suitable to hold a Missouri gaming license and that the state investigation appears to be part of a state review of Hilton's license that the Gaming Commission announced in August.
