Letter: Clinton still nation’s symbol of redemption

Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998 | 2:42 a.m.

The Starr investigation is trying to overturn an election. The right wing could not elect a president democratically. It is working hard to write the final chapter in the president's history. He and his family have been dragged through the electronic gutters of America. What do they hold against the man? Could it be because he:

1. Gave access to power to people of all colors and races.

2. Wanted an administration that looked American.

3. Never took sides with racial prejudice.

4. Had friends among all races and religions.

I don't know if the curtain will fall on Clinton before his time in office is over, but if it does the notion of an America that is fair and great will wane.

Despite his flaws and weaknesses, Clinton is the people's symbol of hope and redemption.
