Editorial: Mobile classroom program grateful
Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998 | 10:57 a.m.
This year 5,000 at-risk children who need preschool services cannot access preschool services because there aren't any available.
I'm writing this letter to publicly recognize and thank an organization who happened to be "just visiting" Las Vegas for their BICSI convention at the Mirage. We were called to submit information on our program to the Telecommunications Association because it traditionally makes a contribution to a local charity. If we were to be selected as the local charity we could receive at least $5,000.
These visitors to our city did choose Classroom on Wheels as their local charity and among their members they raised $28,000 for our preschoolers. The whole experience overwhelmed us.
As we accepted their check we helped to pull out a winning ticket for a member who won a prize at the conference. The prize was a camcorder and tripod which the winner promptly handed over to us to use for the kids.
Thank you, Las Vegas Sun, for permitting us to publicly thank the BICSI members through the newspaper. They did so much for our preschoolers and because they have all gone back to their respective communities we'd like to send the paper to them as a special thank you.
