Orkin's attorney, Mike Pasano, said today he would appeal the verdict decided in a May jury trial, but he said his client was pleased with the sentence since he could have received eight to 10 years.
"We were appreciative the judge accepted some of our arguments and mitigated the sentence," he said.
The case involved bribes secretly paid by Teletek, a telecommunications firm, to Orkin for encouraging his firm's brokers to sell more than $3 million worth of Teletek stock to nearly 1,000 unsuspecting investors.
U.S. District Judge Lloyd George also ordered Orkin to forfeit just over $325,000 in illegal proceeds, to pay a fine of $25,000 and to pay $500,000 in restitution to the defrauded investors.
Several Teletek officials go to trial in the case next year.
