Brief: Kaufman and Broad merger talk resumes
Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998 | 3:43 a.m.
Previous discussions about the company included speculation that Kaufman & Broad is on the verge of acquiring Lewis Homes, a top Las Vegas builder that went up for sale earlier this year.
Lewis closed on more than 1,500 Las Vegas homes in 1996 and annually competes with Del Webb Corp., Phoenix, for the title of largest Las Vegas home builder.
Kaufman & Broad is one of the top builders in most of its markets and a Lewis acquisition would make it No. 1 in Nevada. The company built more than 10,000 homes in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Utah last year.
