Letter: Internet changes ‘man on street’

Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 | 9:59 a.m.

Let's go back to early radio, the audio media of its day. In the late '40s television came along and in those days, who could afford it? Certainly "Joe Public" couldn't and it took many years for TV to catch up. Then years later came the advent of cable. Again who could and still to this day afford the extra expense?

Then came the computer age. I have never seen any percentage of the public that owns personal computers; that number has to be small. Add to that the invention called the Internet (another cost added to their monthly expenses), and who can afford the cost of the computer and Internet? I understand that there are many Internet companies operating today.

So these people are the real reason the overwhelmingly high numbers come up when Internet survey results are shown. Completely the opposite of the "man on the street" numbers. The ultimate conclusion is only people with substance and money on the Internet are the Republican Party.

It's really simple: The Republican voters own the Internet, ergo the totally inaccurate results. The problem that I have is that all of the news networks are allowing this, and if I can figure this out, they certainly have and allow it to continue.

What has previously been called the liberal press is history, and has been for a while now.
