A spokesman in the company's Dallas headquarters said 94 employees in the company's loan processing office were fired Thursday when FirstPlus announced a $75 million joint-venture partnership with Superior Bank, an affiliate of Coast-to-Coast Financial Corp.
About 3,000 employees nationwide were laid off, a move designed to save the company $85 million a year.
FirstPlus' commercial banking operation in Las Vegas was not affected by the move, the spokesman said.
Workers in the Las Vegas office of FirstPlus Freedom take consumer calls, check credit references and talk customers through the loan process.
