THESPIANS PERFORM -- Joe Behar's Community Drama Workshop will spotlight the talents students in a Talent Showcase 2 p.m. Sunday at the Whitney Library Theater, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Admission is free. The workshop meets Mondays at Sam's Town. Call 457-0234 for details.
SONGWRITER SINGS -- San Diego-based singer/ songwriter Mary Dolan, who co-wrote her latest CD, "(Another) Holy Day," with Elton John lyricist, Bernie Taupin, will perform at 5 p.m. Sunday at Borders bookstore North Rainbow Boulevard.
NEW FILM -- "Africa's Elephant Kingdom" begins playing Oct. 19 in Caesars Omnimax Theatre at Caesars Palace. Movies are show on the hour from 2-10 p.m. daily. Beginning Nov. 21, this feature will be shown every 70 minutes, from 2-10:10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11:40 a/m/ -10:10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. BOOK SIGNING -- Susan Chernak McElroy, author of "Animals as Guides for the Soul" and "Animals as Teachers and Healers," will sign her books and give a talk and a reading at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Borders bookstore, 2190 N. Rainbow Blvd.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE AGENDA -- The Community College of Southern Nevada presents the following events at its Cheyenne Campus:
MUSICAL VARIETY -- A concert at the Nicholas J. Horn Theater, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20, will feature the CCSN Concert Band, College Singers and Southern Nevada Jazz Vocal Ensemble. The concert will benefit CCSN music students. Tickets are $5; call 651-4113 or 651-4110 for details.

I AM WOMAN -- A reception for the Las Vegas branch of the National League of American Penwomen will be from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 24 at the West Charleston Library.
ART DISPLAYED -- A reception for an exhibit of photographs, depicting the United Nation's efforts around the world, will be from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Green Valley library.
OPERA NOTES -- The Nevada Opera Theatre presents an "Opera Gala," honoring the Guild's president, Tove Allen, at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Emperors Ballroom at Caesars Palace. Call 699-9775 for details.
CASTING CALL -- The Broadway musical "Rent" will hold open auditions for its touring companies in Las Vegas 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Rainbow Library Amphitheater, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive. Sign-ins begin at 9:30 a.m. for Equity and non-Equity men and woman of all ethnicities in their early- to mid-20's. Please bring a photo and resume and be preaared to sing two rock/ pop songs (16 bars each; bring a cassette player and headphones to learn the songs) -- absolutely no musical theatre songs.
