Symphonic sounds
The Henderson Civic Symphony will perform "French Impressions" 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lorna J.Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris Street. The program will feature the works of turn-of-the-century French composers including Debussy, Faure and Ravel. Admission is free.
Jazzing things up
Pianist Stefan Karlsson will be the featured artist when the Las Vegas Society's opens its sixth season of the Nevada Jazz Artists concert series 2 p.m. Sunday at the Winchester Community Center. 3130 S. McLeod Drive. A reception, where audience members can purchase Karlsson's CD, "Music Box," will follow. General admission tickets are $7; $5 for seniors and children under 12. Tickling the ivories

The UNLV Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor George Stelluto, opens its 1998-99 concert season 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the school's Artemus Ham Concert Hall. Riding the Winds
The Sierra Winds ensemble will features its newest member, horn player Bill Bernatis, in a recital at 7:30 p.m. today in the Judy Bayley Theatre at UNLV. Bernatis, an assistant professor there, performed previously with the Corpus Christy (Tex.) Symphony. Recital tickets are $3 and $5 and are available by calling 895-3801.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents its ninth annual Storytelling Festival today and Saturday at the Rainbow Library Theatre, 3150 N Buffalo Drive. Husband and wife storytelling team Eth-Noh-Tec will be on hand at the free event.
