Letter: Voters need to be heard
Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 | 11:41 a.m.
They should make their own investments? In what? The way the stock market is manipulated is enough to scare anybody, including me.
What would happen? Out of the woodwork would come the scum of mankind persuading these naive people to hand over their livelihood for them to handle. Disaster for the elderly -- a bonanza for the unscrupulous con men.
Franklin Roosevelt said Social Security would be paid directly to them. It would be an inviolate trust. Never again should the surplus which is in trust for future Social Security payments be violated by any budget committee.
If the government would get back to government business instead of playing partisan politics, the surplus we now have would go back to repay Social Security what was taken out these last years by the budget committee and guarantee the baby boomers and those who will come afterward that they would receive the benefits they have paid into the fund all these years. Plus take care of the notch babies.
Thank God we have our votes to register our complaints. So, voters, get out there and vote.
