Brief: Congressman alleges bribery attempt
Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 | 11:51 a.m.
Rep. Vince Snowbarger called a news conference and distributed a memo from the consulting firm of Baker, Zane, Edmonds O'Malley indicating he would benefit from substantial "independent expenditures" for his re-election campaign if he supported an attempt by the Wyandot Tribe of Oklahoma to open a Kansas casino.
C.J. Zane of the consulting firm denied there was a bribery attempt and said Snowbarger had blown the memo out of proportion.
The Journal-World newspaper in Lawrence, Kan., reported Snowbarger sent the memo to the Federal Election Commission and the U.S. Justice Department for investigation.
