Letter: Good Samaritan law not the answer

Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998 | 10:26 a.m.

The problem is that there are many little Jeremys across America who were never taught not to kill in school or at home. When we face this fact we can begin to address the problem and, as a society, seek and implement a solution.

In which one of these environments, as a society, do we have the greatest opportunity to influence the development of a young mind about moral conduct? The answer is, of course, the classroom. We must establish a curriculum which teaches children from kindergarten through the 12th grade moral philosophy.

If we, as Nevadans, want to respond to the problem of little Jeremys by legislating new laws, we should, through legislation, designate funding for and establish a curriculum which teaches moral philosophy within our public school system throughout the state instead of responding by legislating some goofy, unenforceable good Samaritan law.
