If Howard Hughes Corp. cannot find a place to store dirt or someone to sell it to it could delay a two-mile section of the beltway in Northwest Las Vegas for as long as three years.
At a meeting with Sun City Summerlin residents Wednesday night, Clark County Commissioner Lance Malone said he would vote at the Oct. 19 commission meeting to allow the company an extended deadline for excavating the land between the Summerlin Parkway and Cheyenne Avenue.
This could delay the project's scheduled completion from 2000 to 2003. Howard Hughes Corp. donated the land for what initially will be a four-lane highway but later can be expanded to a 10-lane artery.
But now it says it does not have a way to get rid of the the dirt.
Malone also said to appease residents of Sun City he would support the elimination of a planned beltway exit at Lake Mead Boulevard.
