Brief: Legislator wants noise regulations stricken
Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998 | 2:28 a.m.
Rep. James Hansen, R-Utah, made the suggestion in a letter to Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt after Grand Canyon National Park Superintendent Rob Arnsberger testified that an acoustic model upon which regulations were written was never tested.
Hansen said there is no scientific validation that natural quiet has not been restored at the canyon and air tour noise regulations shouldn't be enforced until there is.
That would be good news for Nevada's Grand Canyon air tour operations, which are affected by the noise restrictions. But Babbitt is not expected to seriously consider Hansen's request.
